It was 2010 and we were sitting there in Lakview Restaurant waiting for our food. I have no idea what Lucas ordered but I know what I ordered; it was a pesto tuna melt. Delicious.
I had my arms crossed on the table and was leaning on them. The sun was so bright; it was coming straight through the large windows that helps make the Lakeview spot so popular. Outside was my beloved Dundas Street – oh Toronto, you are so dirty sometimes.
I brought my attention back to Lucas… “and we’ll go for a year. You will get a job and then you can quit and I’ll quit the rig but because I’ll be a driller by then, I can get a drilling job when we get back.” What?
It was all really fast; not only were we discussing a year long adventure of travel and the beautiful discovery of this planet, but I had to first get over the hurdle of moving from my great city of Toronto and into suburbia of the Foot Hills that I referred to as “Hell” back then. *I am currently writing this from my suburban Hell and I have to say, I’m not leaving. Ever. It’s love.
That day was the first day of our planning. From that moment, when we spoke about all future plans, we took our trip into consideration and made accommodations around this – at the time – ambiguous dream that didn’t seem to have a concrete, realistic ending. It was all in my mind. Just a dream of traveling the world with my best friend.
This blog will house our journey around the world. I can’t tell you what will come out of it; at first we wanted to blog through food, which I think will still be a good percentage since we love to take pictures of, talk about , and analyze food as much as we love to eat it. I might throw my cross-cultural education research on here too and then you have all of the random stories of being sick, meeting people, wanting to kill one another and so forth.
read, reply, challenge, love, dream. it’s all good.
I love you both and am so excited for your adventure xoxox
Will be living and loving this trip vicariously through you
